Naxos Music Library Junior Section:

The online resources listed below are part of the Naxos Music Library, a subscription streaming audio database for classical music purchased by the Music Library.  Pre-College students can only access these webpages from computers located in the Music Library.  When you are finished listening, be sure to click on the red LOGOUT button at the top of the screen.

Music for Kids - This section of the Naxos Music Library has links to recordings of children's songs that you can listen to online from the Music Library's computers.

The Story of Classical Music - This audio book tells the story of classical music, from its beginnings in the Middle Ages through the 20th century. Lots of musical examples accompany the story.

Games and Activities - This page features games and activities bsed on The Story of Classical Music.  Learn about composers, instruments of the orchestra, national flags and anthems, and manuscripts and scores.  You can also use a music dictionary, learn how to read music, and play quizzes and games.

Meet the Instruments of the Orchestra - Learn about the different instruments of the orchestra.  You can hear what each instrument sounds like, learn about families of instruments, and meet some important performers.

These free websites are available in the library and at home.

Carnegie Hall Listening Adventures - Come play a game based on Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, view an animated history of Carnegie Hall, or learn about Dvorak's Symphony No. 9, "From the New World."

Creative Kids Central - Learn about different genres of classical music, learn about Brahms's chamber music, or play a game based on Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherezade.

eMusic Theory.com - Practice your music theory skills with these drills.  You can work on intervals, note names, key signatures, scales, and chords, or practice rhythmic dictation.

Global Groovin' with Maya and Miguel - Learn about musical instruments from all over the world, and make your own music mixes with Maya and Miguel.

The New York Philharmonic Kidzone - Visit the composer's gallery, meet soloists and conductors backstage, try out the instrument laboratory, or go to the composition workshop.

NSO Kids - Visit the Nashville Symphony's website for kids to meet performers, learn about instruments, and what you will see and hear at a performance.

Online Music Theory Flashcards - Use these flashcards to help you learn note names, key signatures, triads, and piano and guitar note names.

SFS Kids: Fun with Music - Learn about classical music on this page sponsored by the San Francisco Symphony.  You can learn about the instruments of the orchestra, hear different pieces of classical music, and compose your own pieces in the music lab.
